WEEK 6

WEEK 6: writing your bio

COME TO CLASS:

Class starts at 11am, just click the button below and jump in with us! If you can’t make it, the replay will be uploaded by end of day on Tuesday.

SUMMARY:

Learn how to write about yourself in a concise and compelling way, showing off your skills & personality, so folks are excited to get to know you better and listen to your expertise. The trick? Your bio is less about you, and more about showing your visitor you understand THEM.

MATERIALS:

🎒 Here’s a link to the Questionnaire we discussed in class.

  • Fill it out without perfection as the goal. Just let yourself go, and answer the questions to the point YOU feel complete.

  • It will email you a copy of your answers. Take a walk/break, and come back with fresh eyes.

  • When you review, pretend your Ideal Client is in the room, reading them with you. What parts did they get excited about? Pull those into your Webcopy Doc. (Or your dump doc, if you're having trouble with perfection!)

  • Once you've isolated all the most magnetic parts of your Questionnaire, start weaving them together. This might mean combining different parts of different sentences.

  • Try not to exceed 200 words in your full bio story, and break this out into ~50 word chunks to make it easy to scan. (Single sentence 'paragraphs' are great if you have super important lines you really want to highlight!)

We’re coming to the end of Phase 2, and we’ll want our Webcopy Docs complete before embarking on Week 8, Page Building! After the Holiday, we’ll jump into Squarespace to get started with branding, so you have a little more time to finalize Webcopy.
