12 Week Course in Web Building

Build Your Website.
Build Your Confidence.

Most businesses evolve dramatically in their first year. D.I.Y. Club equips you with the tools to evolve alongside your craft, building a digital system from scratch. When you understand the underlying strategy, pivoting becomes painless.

You’re working with clients, testing out different offers. Your website should reflect what’s true now, and move with you as your business shifts.

Begin where you are.

Websites Demand Clarity.

You must name your work. Define its value. Establish clear boundaries. When you can do that online, you can do it anywhere.

Find your voice before you outsource it.

Your 12 Week Syllabus:
  • WEEK 1) YOUR BRIEF

In our first week together, we'll make sure we have a complete understanding of what your website needs to DO. A website is more than a digital billboard — it's a tool, and everything on it should lead your visitor to take a clear action: buying, booking, or inquiring.

    WEEK 2) YOUR BRAND

To create a website people want to visit, you'll need a clear brand. This means refining your visual cues, so visitors can quickly identify whether or not you're a match for their need. We'll talk about how to use colors and fonts to set the tone immediately.

    WEEK 3) YOUR VOICE

This week is all about the Mission Statement, the foundation for all the copy on your site. While beautiful, a website is really about the words on the page. We'll talk about the most important elements when writing for web, and how to make sure your site sounds like YOU.

  • WEEK 4) SITE ARCHITECTURE

Working from your Mission Statement, we'll make sure your website is easily navigable and covers all the bases that matter to your business, so your visitors can get exactly what they came for and browse for more details. Most sites don't need more than 5 pages!

    WEEK 5) THE HOME PAGE

Your home page is THE most important page on your site. Think of it like the Table of Contents in a helpful guidebook, allowing people to quickly scan the headlines and find the information most relevant to them. That's why it's best to write your other pages first.

    WEEK 6) WRITING YOUR BIO

Learn how to write about yourself in a concise and compelling way, showing off your skills & personality, so folks are excited to get to know you better and listen to your expertise. The trick? Your bio is less about you, and more about showing your visitor you understand THEM.

  • WEEK 7) SQUARESPACE BASICS

We'll walk through how to navigate the Squarespace interface and begin your project by inputting all your "site styles," (aka colors & fonts) so you can move forward with a clear runway. Don't worry if Squarespace doesn't have your brand fonts, we'll cover that too!

    WEEK 8) PAGE BUILDING

Now that your website is styled to match your brand, we'll jump into a blank page, adding new components & elements from scratch. This is SO much more effective than trying to build from a template, since we're addressing your needs — not the needs Squarespace thinks you have.

    WEEK 9) SALES PAGES

By now, your website is built to the specifications we set in Phase 2, and you've built your whole site as intended! Now let's talk about adding new pages, so if you ever start a new program or course, you know exactly what to do to add it to your site.

  • WEEK 10) DNS, SEO, & CSS

Ready for some alphabet soup? We'll talk through URLs & how to optimize your site for search engines & mobile sharing, giving you the best chance for organic discovery. We'll also chat about fixing certain quirks with code snippets that will make you feel like a pro.

WEEK 11) MEMBERSHIPS & PROTECTED CONTENT

This week, we'll work on adding digital products and discounts to your site, so you can start a membership or course of your own with paywalled content through Squarespace's Pricing Plans feature. We'll also cover more static elements like blogs and password protected pages.

    WEEK 12) FUNNEL & FOLLOW-UPS

A website is like a residential house — expecting people to stumble into your living room is a big ask. That's why staying active in social spaces is so important! You need to direct them to your website, so they know where to go and follow up to stay top-of-mind.

This is not a template you follow blindly.

It’s a framework you shape, adapt, and return to. So you can take the necessary risks, knowing you have the skills to recalibrate. Refine your services, experiment with confidence, and expand your presence as you grow.
